My Story
When it comes to understanding the way the world works, they say that the physicist asks the question why, while the engineer asks how. As a double-major in Physics and Mechanical Engineering, I ask both.
Through physics, I've learned to fully appreciate the true complexities of our universe, and I still continue to ask that open-ended question, "why?". It is the kind of question that searches for reason where there may be none, but allows for the exploration of alternative paths and discoveries along the way. It is a question that represents the curiosity I treasure within myself and passionately pursue in all my ventures and projects.
I was most drawn to Mechanical Engineering as I loved the creativity that pervades throughout the field. I've always loved working with my hands, learning how things worked, and most of all, creating most anything I could imagine. Even as a child, I loved learning how to fix and repair miscellaneous house-hold appliances, as well as learning how to build and create with various power tools as I grew older. As a mechanical engineer, I've loved the ability my field has given me in being able to fabricate concepts into their physical forms. With each skill that I acquire, be it 3D-printing and laser-cutting to Milling and machining, I still tingle with the excitement that comes with the role of creating, and I look forward to the opportunity to gain new skills.
Work Experience
September 2022 - Present
June 2021 - August 2021
May 2019 - August 2019
May 2018 - August 2018
Applications Engineer - Nanotronics
Thoroughly demonstrated the capabilities of the main product, an AI Automated Optical Inspection machine, as well as discussing new developments and future products with prospective and current clients via live demos, sample testing, and capabilities reports. Worked efficiently as a liaison between the product/sales teams and the Development teams to continuously improve products and provide clients with efficient and effective solutions for their optical inspection needs. Worked between teams to develop and guide projects and integrate workflows to not only meet, but also exceed client expectations.
Skill highlights: AI Utilization, Applications, product/sales management, client technical support, Design Improvement, problem-solving, SQL, scripting
Summer REU Intern- Nevis Laboratories
Designed and constructed a cryogenic camera mounting system to image equipment damage and failure within a model dark matter detector. Successfully created a working engineering packet, complete with a SolidWorks CAD assembly, Bill of Materials, and engineering drawings of the hand-machined camera mount and holder.
Skill highlights: 3D CAD Modeling (Solidworks), Machining/Manufacturing, equipment design, problem-solving
Summer Research Assistant- Eckerd College
Worked closely with a professor of physics, running computer simulations of the Hall Thruster to model plasma behavior inside the chamber. Successfully rewrote the Fortran 70 simulation code into an updated version using Fortran 90/C++.
Analyzed data acquired from simulations in Matlab to visualize plasma behavior.
Skill Highlights: Coding (Jupyter, Python,FORTRAN), MATLAB, Analysis
Summer Research Assistant- Eckerd College
Designed and constructed upper level physics labs involving high-precision data acquisition. Machined and manufactured apparatuses for labs to be conducted by upper level physics students taking Electromagnetism, Statistical Mechanics, and Quantum Mechanics
Skill Highlights: Coding(Jupyter, Python), Machining/manufacturing, product design
Mission
Success, for me, shines brightest through the impact that it makes within the community. As an engineer, I not only hope to continue growing and learning, but I also strive for success as I help our world work towards a stronger, more sustainable future.
